Books, articles, and sometimes podcasts that piqued my interest or were particularly memorable. I don’t take the time to summarize them since a search engine can do that quicker and with more eloquence than me. Just some quick thoughts on each. Feel free to send recommendations on other material!
To Shake the Sleeping Self by Jedidiah Jenkins
I picked this book up randomly while walking the main street in Durango, Colorado during a music festival weekend. It went along with me in my traveling adventures in 2024- a welcome companion when camping alone or sitting on long plane rides. I have already ordered one of his other books because I dearly love his writing style and honest content. This recounting of his internal and external experiences while biking from Oregon to Patagonia is truly one of those stories that you must read for yourself. I won’t do it justice in a review.
Lake of the Ozarks by Bill Geist
This was a delightful, easy summer read. I had this book with me as I traveled this summer, and it brought me so much laughter. I enjoyed Bill Geist’s wit and gift for storytelling. Highly recommend for a light read.
Thirst: 2600 Miles to Home by Heather Anderson
I listened to this on audio. I could not stop listening. Heather/ “Anish” has such beautiful descriptive language. The scenes she describes made feel like I was there too. I found her openness about her internal thoughts and journey to be incredibly brave and refreshing. I learned a lot from her. This is one that will make you anxious for the trail if you are already a hiker…and may convince to start up even if you’ve never hiked a day in your life.
Tigers in Red Weather by Liza Klaussmann
I have read this twice. The story line is so well crafted. Klaussmann develops her characters so well that I became attached to each in a different way. I will keep this forever in my library as a favorite. It has a bit of everything- coming of age story lines, suspense, romance, and adventure. There is a very small section with a bit of sexual violence (one short part of a scene/paragraph) so be warned.
Leap Without a Net: Leaving A Job with No Plan B by Tess Vigeland
I will leave this one here for now…more to come in my blog about this book. It has particularly powerful importance to me in this season of my life.
